Cannabigerolic Acid (CBGA)

Cannabigerolic Acid (CBGA) is a precursor to the major cannabinoids found in cannabis, including THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD (cannabidiol), and CBC (cannabichromene). It is considered the “mother cannabinoid” or the “stem cell” cannabinoid because it is the first cannabinoid produced in the cannabis plant’s biosynthetic pathway.

CBGA is produced in the trichomes of the cannabis plant, which are small, resinous glands found primarily on the flowers and leaves. Enzymes in the plant then convert CBGA into other cannabinoids through a process called biosynthesis. Depending on which enzymes are dominant in a particular cannabis strain and at what stage of growth they are active, CBGA can be converted into different cannabinoids.
